In the heart of Cedar Bayou, Louisiana, the name Mauvais means one thing: voodoo. Unable to break from her dark family history that involves an ancestor cursing the entire Dumont men to never marry, Allie Mauvais has no luck when it comes to trying to charm Marc Dumont. When his ship is in need of a pastry chef and recruits her, he can't avoid her anymore out of fear for the curse. As the two spend more time together, sparks fly and a Dumont man and Mauvais woman will finally have to decide if they can, or want, to break the rumored curse that has haunted their families for years.
Full of utter deliciousness, MAKE YOU MINE by Macy Beckett is a perfect romantic read. Allie is such a fun main character, overflowing with heart and a deep appreciation for sweet foods. Hearing about all of her dishes will have your mouth watering almost as much as it will when Marc comesinto the picture. Marc is sexy and confident (but never too cocky), and he sheds so much light on the effect parents' relationship can have on children growing up. The curse/hex is a neat twist that gives an added level of Louisiana feel, but it's not over the top for anyone who prefers more realistic romance.
Since this is the beginning of The Dumont Bachelors, a series with different main characters following, the secondary characters shine. Allie's sister, Dev, is so spunky, and it's clear her and Marc's brother, Beau, have a history. I can't wait to read their story and see how they deal with the 'curse'. Alongside them are more siblings of Marc's like Ella, who add sweetness not unlike the sugar on top of beignets to the story. They are a lot of characters whom I wouldn't mind seeing getting their own story at all, but I happily enjoy them as added bonuses in this story for now.
For fans of Rachel Harris and romance with a splash of supernatural, I couldn't recommend MAKE YOU MINE by Macy Beckett more. The steamy scenes sizzle off the page, and the characters have a heart bigger the state they were born in. I'm so excited to see what Macy Beckett writes next!
