Susan's daughter Charlotte walks in front of a truck, is hit
and falls into a coma. The doctors believe she will recover
and can find no medical reason why she will not come out of
the coma. Susan believes that if she can find what it is
that upset her daughter so much that she was willing to end
her life then maybe she will wake up. As Susan looks
further into her daughter's life she is shocked to discover
so many things going on that she had no idea about.
Charlotte broke up with her boyfriend and no longer talks
to her best friend.
As Susan's investigation proceeds her own past comes back
to haunt her. Susan suffered horribly at the hands of a man
she escaped from many years ago. Now she believes he is
back and may have something to do with her daughter's coma,
but Susan is afraid to say anything. Susan has suffered
from delusions before and her family is starting to think
she is going off the deep end again. Can Susan discover
the truth before it is too late for both her and her
daughter?
BEFORE I WAKE is a compelling novel about how people are
able to gain strength and move forward with their lives,
yet are always effected by the horrors of their past. If
Susan had never had the strength to leave an abusive
relationship she would have died many years ago. Now Susan
has a wonderful life but her post traumatic stress disorder
puts a large burden on all those around her. This is the
story of a mother's love though the most difficult of
times.
BEFORE I WAKE by C.L. Taylor is a great story that
has mystery, drama, love, and determination.
This secret is killing me. It's only one line from her fifteen-year-old daughter's diary, but Susan knows it means everything. Charlotte is smart, popular, and beautiful. She is also in a coma following what looks like a desperate suicide attempt. What's more, Susan has no idea what compelled her daughter to step out in front of a city bus. Did she really know her daughter at all? In her hunt for the truth, Susan begins to mistrust everyone close to Charlotte, and she's forced to look further, into the depths of her own past. The secrets hidden there may destroy them both.
