Fantasy Steampunk

Corrina Lawson enters the Victorian age with a Steam Punk Twist. Seamstress Joan Krieger is pushing the boundaries of what women can wear by creating cutting edge clothing. Joan needs the Lady Grey to love the clothes and introduce them to society, when she dies under suspicious circumstances possibly magical ones, she may lose everything. Joan is given the name of a detective who can help her get to the truth. Before she can do that Joan returns home to find out that a Knight has asked for her hand in marriage. As most young women of this time she is given little choice, he has promised to save her families failing business when they marry. Joan cannot understand why a Knight would want to marry her, a seamstress. Now she has two mysteries to solve.

Joan meets with the detective, Gregor Sherringford, and enlists his help in discovering the truth. The two begin on a series of events that uncover much more than Joan ever expected. She learns that no one in her life is what she thinks not even herself. Joan over comes much in this story and gains strength beyond what is accepted of a Victorian woman. The interactions of the characters hold true to the time frame and it is enjoyable watching Joan push the boundaries of what a strong woman can be. She must chose not only what is best for her future but for her heart.

THE CURSE OF THE BRIMSTONE CONTRACT is the first in an exciting new Steampunk Detectives series that fans of Steampunk should read.

SUMMARY

Magic existed at the fringes until Prince Albert discovered he was a mage. Now he and others like him are leading a revolution in steam technology that’s held tight in the grip of the upper classes. A man of half-Indian heritage, rejected by his upper-crust, mage-gifted family, Gregor Sherringford lives in working- class London, investigating cases involving magic among the lower classes. But he’s never met a client quite like spirited, stubborn Joan Krieger. Joan’s dream was to lead a fashion revolution designing women’s clothing suited to the new technology. But when her richest client mysteriously dies outside her shop, it deals a mortal blow to her dreams. She hopes the handsome, enigmatic detective can prove the death a magical murder. She never expected a dark plot would be woven right into the fabric of her family. Or that cracking the case will mean merging gifts, minds—and hearts— with the one man who could be her partner in every way. If they survive the release of a soul-binding curse. Warning: This novel contains an intelligent, repressed detective and a woman who won’t take no for an answer, not when she hires him…and not when she falls in love with him.
