"Time-Bending Romanov Russian YA Tale"

Fresh Fiction Review

Young Adult

Jenny Kramer has to wear gloves every day. If she doesn't, she sees visions of past lives, lives she doesn't understand. After an unlikely friendship with Ben and a strange encounter with Nikolai, Jenny thinks they all knew each other long ago in Romanov Russia. But messing with time comes with consequences, and no one knows if they are willing to pay that price.

ENDLESS is one of my favorite books of the year so far. Amanda Gray tells the story of Jenny, Nikolai, Ben, and Romanov Russia in a beautiful and enchanting narrative. I completely fell in love with the flashbacks to their past lives and the beauty of the descriptions. The mystery behind how they got to their present lives has you curious the whole time and eager to find out what happened. It has a way of sweeping you up and putting you right in the story like the wind putting a snowflake into a heavy snowfall. It carries you right on through the plot and leaves you breathless by the end.

I often have mixed feelings about love triangles, but the feelings between the three are pretty clear and not so angst-y. I enjoyed seeing the characters develop as they discover more about each other. Though I do wish more was done with Nikolai in terms of discovering more about him and his past, I still very much like his character. His potential romance with Jenny is exciting and touching.

With the gorgeous descriptions and captivating story-telling, ENDLESS is a fabulous read. I love their adventure and the little historical element here and there that make it so unique, special, and absolutely enjoyable. Amanda Gray's talent leaps off the page, and I will definitely keep mark her as a to-watch-for author.

SUMMARY

Jenny Kramer knows she isn’t normal. After all, not everybody can see the past lives of people around them. When she befriends Ben Daulton, resident new boy, the pair stumble onto an old music box with instructions for "mesmerization" and discover they may have more in common than they thought—like a past life! Using the instructions in the music box, Ben and Jenny share a dream that transports them to Romanov Russia and leads them to believe they have been there together before. But Nikolai, the mysterious young man Jenny has been seeing in her dreams who has now appeared next door, was there, too. Jenny is forced to acknowledge that Nikolai has traveled through time and space to find her. Doing so means he has defied the laws of time, and the Order, an ominous organization tasked with keeping people in the correct time, is determined to send him back. While Ben, Jenny, and Nikolai race against the clock—and the Order—Jenny and Nikolai discover a link that joins them in life and beyond death.
