Three women, Rowena, Victoria, and Prudence, are all
struggling to deal with World War I. Life isn't easy for
each other them. Rowena is uncertain about her kind fiancé
when she can't stop thinking about a past love. Victoria is
intent on being alone, but in doing so, she may lose the one
man she never knew she loved. Prudence's husband is possibly
off to war, and she can't handle it. The three will have to
rely on each other if they hope to make it through the
tragedies and changes that await them.
SUMMSERSET ABBEY: SPRING AWAKENING is the final book in the
Summerset Abbey trilogy. I was nervous about starting it
since I haven't read the first two, but this book reads so
well and keeps the reader nicely updated on the history of
the characters without being obvious that it almost felt
like a potential stand alone. Prudence, Rowena, and Victoria
all take turns as focus of the story and weaving their rich
in dramatic and exciting lives. I love the distinct feel
they all have between them. Rowena is insecure about her
place in life right now and her journey is digging through
her past will make readers consider their own past and what
is really best for them. Victoria is the stubborn one,
possibly one of the most stubborn characters I have ever
read, but the romance between her and her love interest is
intense, snarky, and grand. Their relationship is by far my
favorite of the book. Then you have Prudence, the only one
married of the three, who is dealing with marital problems.
Her character feels, though they all do, the most real and
relatable. She isn't chasing a different past or living in a
potentially epic romance, but just trying to protect the
family she loves and wants to build. Their journeys are
engaging and beautiful.
The historical setting of this book is created very well by
T. J. Brown. You feel as if you are in the time period with
the details from their clothing to the role they play in
society and in their families. It transports you to that
period and shows you what lives some might have had. The
detail that goes into that is an excellent and enjoyable
part of the book.
Overall, I highly enjoyed SUMMERSET ABBEY: SPRING AWAKENING.
It has
historical, romantic, and realistic elements that bring both
the characters and story to a wonderful life.
The laughter of summer lawn parties fades for the men and
women of Summerset Abbey, as the rumble of cannon-fire
sweeps across Europe. In a changing world, they soon find
that only one thing is certain: none of them will ever be
the same.
