Anne Boleyn gave England a healthy son: William Tudor, now
King of England. While the young king should be celebrating
making peace by his future engagement to a princess from
France, he can't stop thinking about his childhood friend
Minuette. What he doesn't know is that Minuette and Dominic,
his best friend, are in love.
THE BOLEYN DECEIT is a historical novel full of imagination
and scandal. As a huge geek about anything Tudor and
British, the reimagining of the Tudor history is clever and
thought provoking. Though I always believe every historical
novel can take surprising turns and twists, one of the
things that can be a downside is knowing how it ends
already. In this Boleyn trilogy, you have no idea how things
will turn o out. Laura Andersen takes the historical figures
and uses them in a new manner if Anne Boleyn had a son.
What I enjoy most in THE BOLEYN DECEIT is one of the main
characters, Minuette. At first, she seems to not be bright,
to be a little frivolous and shallow. However, she slowly
becomes noticeably more cunning and intelligence while
maintaining her good heart. Her character is well beloved in
the series, and it is easy to see why. The chemistry between
her and Dominic and her and William truly leaps off the page
and brings the love triangle to a new level. Around the
romance, the suspense and scandal at the court is absolutely
delicious. I love the mystery that consistently goes
throughout the novel and heightens the odds for everyone.
If you enjoy historical fiction with a great twist, then
this is a great series to pick up. THE BOLEYN DECEIT offers
even more suspense than the first book, THE BOLEYN KING, and
I can't wait to find out what happens in the end of the
trilogy.
The regency period is over and William Tudor, now King
Henry IX, sits alone on the throne. But England must still
contend with those who doubt his legitimacy, both in faraway
lands and within his own family. To diffuse tensions and
appease the Catholics, William is betrothed to a young
princess from France, but still he has eyes for only his
childhood friend Minuette, and court tongues are wagging.
Even more scandalous—and dangerous, if discovered—is that
Minuette’s heart and soul belong to Dominic, William’s best
friend and trusted advisor. Minuette must walk a delicate
balance between her two suitors, unable to confide in
anyone, not even her friend Elizabeth, William’s sister, who
must contend with her own cleaved heart. In this
irresistible tale, the secrets that everyone keeps are
enough to change the course of an empire
