Again we find Heather and Dante fighting for their lives. Picking up from Etched in Bone, Heather is drugged and taken by her father, FBI Agent James Wallace. Dante, lost to his violent and painful past is just hanging on to the here and now with the bond he shares with Heather.
When news of what Dante really is travels through the supernatural communities, there is no shortage on who is now out to exploit his abilities. The Cercle de Druide wish to force Dante into their inner circles and to stand as his advisors. The Shadow Branch wants his world altering power, and command with a simple phrase or word. The Coneil du Sang want him to strengthen and purify their vampire bloodlines. And then there is the Fallen, who wait for his return to Gehenna to heal their dying world. However, none are concerned with what Dante himself wants.
As Heather escapes from her father, she know she must find Dante. Through their bond, Dante's mind is fragile and chaotic. He is jumping from the past to the present. She must reach him before the madness and despair take over. If she fails, or she dies, the Dante & the world as they know it is gone too.
This is book 5 in The Maker's Song series. I had come across Adrian Phoenix when I picked up her first book in my local super market years ago, and have loved her books since. Although you will be able to follow easily, I recommend reading the entire series to get a stronger sense of who and what Dante is and why he is so important to those who stop at nothing to get access to him.
