Lottie Anders nearly lost her best friend two years ago. In
the potentially deadly combination of boys, alcohol, and
driving, her friend ended up taking a serious brain injury
that changed her for life. Now, Lottie is ready to move to
college, but when she arrives, she finds none other than the
boy behind the wheel of the car, Zan, and his idiot brother
who was with him, Zack. Lottie wants to hate them both, but
when Zan starts to show a different side to himself, she
doesn't know if she can find that hate...or forgiveness.
DEEPER WE FALL was a refreshing new adult romance for me. It
has sexy scenes in it, but they aren't over the top like
I've seen in several other NA romance titles. They are
tastefully done, and they still managed to be steamy. The
potential romance between Zan and Lottie is such an
interesting thing given his involvement in her friend's
accident, and I liked seeing what the author, Chelsea M.
Cameron, did to bring out how a young person would feel in a
situation like that.
Lottie and Zan, whose perspectives shift in the book, are
given nice depth as characters. I think some of the plot is
predictable, but in a weird way, the characters are't. I
would keep wondering how Lottie would react to a certain
situation or what Zan would say to his brother at certain
points. Zack's character is well-played, and because of
that, very frustrating. He parties with no visible sense of
a moral compass and nearly becomes the antagonist of the
story himself. His girlfriend, who you find out is Lottie's
roommate, has wonderful character development, and I like
her specifically in this story.
Blurring the lines between giving forgiveness and being
forgiven, DEEPER WE FALL is deep and enjoyable. I didn't
love it, but it's a nice read that I'm glad I read. If the
plot had been a little more unpredictable and changing, I
would have enjoyed it more, but overall, not a bad story in
the least.
