Della Wright has recently moved to Briar Hollow. After
being accused of embezzlement, she cooperates with federal
authorities and proves her boss did it instead. Persona non
grata at work, Della realizes a changes is in order. Her
best friend, Matthew offers her the use of his home in Briar
Hollow.
Now, Della has made it her own. She cleans out much of the
furniture on the lower level and sets up a weaving studio.
She decides to offer some classes to introduce herself to
the community and build up some good PR.
Della is interested to see that one man appears for class.
David Swanson is there as part of a court ordered anger
management program to weave something for charity. When
David is framed for the murder of the man he assaulted,
Della decides to see what she can learn.
Matthew comes back to Briar Hollow and inserts himself into
the investigation. As an expert in criminal behavior, one
would think the police would jump at the chance to utilize
his skills.
What they learn will turn the town of Briar Hollow on it's
ear.
Ms. Martin has started an interesting new series with some
quirky and fun characters. We watch Della deal with the
uncertainties of a new life and find out that it is possible
to rise triumphant from a perceived failure. The mystery
was especially complex and ended with a big surprise. While
weaving isn't an interest of mine, there was enough
information about weaving to keep the reader informed
without overshadowing the mystery.
Della Wright has come to peaceful and picturesque Briar
Hollow, at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, to
realize
her lifelong dream of owning a weaving studio. To promote
her new business, Dream Weavers, Della is offering
weaving
workshops for all levels of ability. In her first class,
she
meets half a dozen of the town’s colorful characters, who
seem as eager to gossip as to learn how to work a loom.
But when a shady local businessman is found murdered,
Briar
Hollow suddenly appears a lot less idyllic. And when one
of
her weaving students is suspected of the crime, Della
can’t
help getting entangled in the investigation—with some
help
from her criminologist friend, Matthew. But can she weave
together clues as well as she weaves together yarn—and
stop
a killer from striking again?
