Coming straight after the end of King Cobra this continues the tale of several young mechanics in the Hot Rods series. MUSTANG SALLY is the girl in the crew, and she has driven off in despair after her friends Eli and Alanso brought a girl home from a bar. She'd thought she was special to them. An older group of friends, running a naturist resort, give her shelter. Coming from a Utah commune, Sally's cool with alternative relationships. After a couple of weeks she's given encouragement to go back and face the mechanics, even so she knows where she stands and can move on or decide to stay.

The sheepish lads back in the garage are agreeing never to do anything to hurt Sally again, and turns out not only Eli and Alanso, who are bisexual, fancy the girl. Eli's father Tom has fostered all the young people and they've got a thriving business going. What will it take to persuade Sally to stay? And what relationship exactly would the girl have in mind if she does?

While I can be open-minded about the choices of lifestyle portrayed, I was uncomfortable with a group of mature people demonstrating a threesome to encourage Sally to accept the possibility of polyandry. She's now of age, but it didn't seem that different to the polygamous commune she'd fled aged fifteen. I was also concerned about several men indulging at once in physically dangerous sex with one woman - they admit it was inspired by porn. Read as an erotic fantasy, this tale by Jane Rylon does show the young men respecting and loving the girl, and no force is used. The Hot Rods are a tough committed group of people earning their keep and pulling together, with father-figure Tom keeping a background oversight when they run into problems too big to resolve. Let's hope the garage is open for business again soon with MUSTANG SALLY in charge.
