"A Denver lawyer finds something he hadn't bargained for"

Fresh Fiction Review

Romance

Canyon Westmoreland is a lawyer, and he can't get over his split with a lady named Keisha Ashford, another lawyer, three years ago. She left Denver and wouldn't speak to him, believing that he'd cheated on her with her friend. Now Keisha's back in town but as offhand as before and CANYON decides to explain his point of view once and for all, then leave her alone. However he spots a car following Keisha's car, and when he reports the licence plate to police, the vehicle has been stolen. Concerned, Canyon follows Keisha too - and sees her picking up a little boy from daycare. A boy who looks so like his nephews that he must be family....

Keisha was herself raised by a single mother, and she's independent enough to have raised Canyon's little boy in Texas. She knew returning to Denver might cause a scene and reluctantly introduces Canyon to Beau, the son he never knew existed. But she's not prepared to hear that she is being followed, while her house is ransacked. All protective male, Canyon insists the little family come stay at the Westmoreland ranch, where they will be safe until the police get to the bottom of the situation. And maybe Keisha would just hear his version of the scene with her friend?

Brenda Jackson has written several books in her long- running saga of the Westmoreland family, so a large number of previous characters enter the tale at this point, mostly happily settled as couples. They instinctively accept little Beau as one of their own and are polite enough not to ask Keisha exactly what is going on between her and Canyon. Followers of the earlier books will be glad to keep up with the family tree - this does make it a little harder to read the novel as a standalone. However the two main characters decide to move forward and make their priority finding out who is behind the threats to Keisha, and why. New readers can focus on this aspect of the story and slide over the many names and relations from the rest of the series. I liked this book more than the previous instalment Zane and the next will be called Stern after another brother.

SUMMARY

From New York Times bestselling author Brenda Jackson comes a new trilogy starring three Westmorelands...

Years ago, Canyon Westmoreland let misunderstandings come between him and Keisha Ashford. But when Keisha returns to town with a two-year-old son, it's time to settle things once and for all. A blazing attraction still burns between them, and this time around, nothing will stop Canyon from claiming what is his-his woman and his child!
