Zachary Adams is not sure he wants to join Covert Cowboys Inc. He does fits the bill for Hank Derringer's operation; he's an ex FBI agent. But his last experience was so mentally debilitating that he just doesn't know if he can still do this. Hank's ranch is right next to the Big Elk Ranch where Jacie Kosart works as a hunting tour guide. When her twin sister Tracie comes for a surprise visit, Jacie takes her on a tour with two hunters into a canyon area they don't usually use. This specific area, however, was requested by the two hunters. When it is time to turn back, the hunters refuse and continue on down the trail. Jacie and Tracie follow, but someone begins shooting at them and everyone gets separated. Jacie finds the hunters dead and her sister is kidnapped.
Hank assigns Zachary to this case because Tracie came to him days earlier and requested some possible help from Hank. Zach is not sure he's the right man for the job. The authorities believe a Mexican drug cartel is at the bottom of this and discover that the two hunters were really DEA agents. Working with the FBI and DEA, Zach and Jacie strike off to do some investigating on their own. While following up on a lead, Jacie is kidnapped too. Zach is determined to find the people responsible and bring them to justice.
This is my second visit with the Covert Cowboys. The story is fast-paced and action- packed. Jacie and Zach are strong characters, but can't seem to keep their hands off each other. There is an electric attraction between them, but Zach is afraid to get emotionally involved. The two characters make a great team, always having each other's back when they get into tight situations. It's hard to tell who you can trust and who you can't, and you're never quite sure where the plot is headed. This is a great quick read for the summer, full of suspense and a little steamy romance. Add this one to your list.
