A student poses for an erotic nude art photo and a rich
businessman becomes obsessed by her image - so much so, he
wants to own the model. When Ethan Blackstone gives Brynne
Bennett a lift from the London art gallery, the American
model repeatedly hears his double entendres and total lack
of humor. The next day he's sneaked her mobile phone number
and calls her persistently. The second time Ethan meets the
girl he traps her against a wall and kisses her.
Unfortunately, what is supposed to be romantic actually
comes across as a bit stalkerish.
In NAKED, Brynne is studying art conservancy, restoring old
works. Ethan is providing security to VIP clients at the
London Olympics, from far too lavish an office - most
security firms prefer to keep it low-key. When Brynne
visits her new man's office and gets steamy with him, it
never occurs to her, as it did to me, that this man who
spies on her credit card use and uses bugs to hear her
conversations may well be videoing the encounter. Brynne
has trust issues arising from an incident in her past and
the domineering man who expects her to jump like an Army
cadet at his bidding doesn't help. Secrets will out and
American politics enter the picture, providing rather more
interest and another motive for Ethan's fascination.
Fans of the recent flood of erotic romance books may like to
give NAKED by Raine Miller a try. Many of the same
elements are present in this novella, without the whips and
chains. In fact, the tasteful nude photo on the cover
inspired the author to write the story. Personally, I had
trouble getting into NAKED, an erotic story of a
swearing girl and a charmless man. Having characters who
originate in two countries has obvious appeal to two but I'd
have liked to explore more of London than the
interiors we mainly see. I kept hoping for some interesting
details about either occupation, but few were provided.
