Romance Historical
The last thing Lord Jack expected to find when he left his
mother's Valentine Day ball was someone in the bedchamber
that was always kept for his family at the inn. Lord Jack
insists on escorting the young man to London since he looks
barely old enough to be on his own. Frances Hadley set out with just the clothes on her back and
her horse. When the horse goes lame, she stops at an inn to
find a bed. Posing as a man is proving harder than she
expected but she manages to get a room to herself when
weather forces her to stop. Waking up next to a man was the last thing she could have
imagined and what a man. Even living in a small town, she
has heard of Lord Jack Valentine and his scandalous
reputation. Frances is set on claiming her dowry and
finding a small cottage. Her aunt just tried to sell her
into marriage and she wants nothing to do with men. Sally MacKenzie has really done a great job of involving the
reader in the second book in the Duchess of Love
series.
Jack is a likable man who has lived a somewhat scandalous
life style but really uses his reputation to support a
series of charities. Frances is abrasive at times but vulnerable as well.
Watching the two of them interact will keep the reader
guessing about what will happen next. Throw in some
murders and the reader will step away from SUPRISING LORD JACK
satisfied with everything that happens.
SUMMARY
Unladylike Behavior Frances Hadley has managed her family's estate for years. So
why can't she request her own dowry? She'll have to go to
London herself and knock some sense into the men interfering
in her life. With the nonsense she's dealt with lately,
though, there's no way she's going as a woman. A pair of
breeches and a quick chop of her red curls, and she'll have
much less to worry about. . . Jack Valentine, third son of the famous Duchess of Love, is
through being pursued by pushy young ladies. One
particularly determined miss has run him out of his own
house party. Luckily the inn has one bed left--Jack just has
to share with a rather entertaining red-headed youth.
Perhaps the two of them should ride to London together. It
will make a pleasant escape from his mother's matchmaking
melodrama!
