WINTER'S THAW is the newest book in the Compass Girls series
about the Compton family living on the Compass ranch. We
first meet Sienna as a
giggling sixteen-year-old. Six years
later she's working as a nurse and has a boyfriend, Josh,
who is considering going to Florida with his college pals
instead of spending Christmas with her. The Wyoming ranch
owners raise horses and compete in rodeo.
In WINTER'S THAW, Daniel Lennon brings some
excitement along with his Virginian accent. A new employee
on the ranch, he dropped out
of professional bull riding due to an an injury. Sienna gets
to know him in between her job in town and home. She doesn't
go out and live
it up and has only ever dated Josh. Daniel doesn't want to
do anything inappropriate, but he thinks the girl should
see some more of life. Sienna finds him more than
attractive but is properly distant, loyal to her boyfriend
and with her future mapped out; but others think Josh may
not be in it for the long haul. Then Josh comes home for
Thanksgiving with an abrupt change of life plan. How did
Sienna's life get so complicated?
WINTER'S THAW is a modern western (with conference calls for
girlie chats) about a traditionally-minded girl and her sexual
awakening. The normal family pressures are present - an
elderly lady whose memory is slipping, a protective father -
but by night, and stolen time during the day, Sienna
explores a side of herself that she never knew existed.
Social mores will make it hard for her to be happy
long-term - but for now, she's done with plans.
Mari Carr and Jayne Rylon have each published several books
separately and since meeting at a writers' conference in
2009 have collaborated on the Compass Brothers series -
they are now working on their next book in the series.
With a lively approach to life and a determination to see
their characters end up with whoever is the right match for
them, these authors make a fine team of romance writers.
WINTER'S THAW shows how modern women are no longer bound by
the constraints of our grandmothers' day, and are entitled
to expect more from life than settling for the first offer
to come along. Try this sizzling story and be inspired to
live a little.
