The Magister has left a complete massacre behind and for those Others and humans who survived, the chaos isn't over. When anti-Other hate groups target the Others, it's up to PR guru Molly Ryan to corral them. As a witch growing up in the human world, Molly has integrated well but now that the human world has turned her back on her, she is ready to embrace her witchy side and stand up for herself and her people.
Gage Garrity is also an Other and his job is to help Molly in any way that he can. However, amidst all the political rampages, he finds himself admiring Molly for her strength and perseverance. Perhaps the best thing about GOING UNDER is Molly Ryan, who simply takes center stage and shines completely. All eyes are on her and her presence in this book really makes it feel larger than life. Lauren Dane needed a tough, intelligent heroine and I think she achieved that with Molly Ryan. I admired her so much.
The only thing I missed was Gage. So much of the spotlight is centered on Molly and her greatness that I felt that it didn't quite balance out the hero. Gage seemed to jump in and out of Molly's shadow throughout GOING UNDER and I wished he had more of a solid presence.
Since so much of GOING UNDER deals with the aftermath of the Magister, I definitely recommend reading the series in order. Dane has created a sinfully rich world filled with politics and three-dimensional characters that it would be a shame to miss out of these books!
