Writing obituaries for the local paper was not what Emma
Collins had in mind when she was studying journalism in
college. Living in Puyallup, Washington has its perks like
beautiful scenery and warm caring folks, but all Emma
truly desires is to share her gift of writing. With the
holidays quickly approaching, Emma could use some good old
fashion Christmas spirit, instead of her usual holiday
doldrums. With her mom's passing away two years ago, Emma
finds it truly difficult to muster up that holiday cheer
that she sees all around her.
When her boss hands her a plum assignment to interview the
three finalists of the Good Homemaking magazine fruitcake
recipe contest, Emma is convinced that this could be her
big break. What she didn't plan on was the strings that
came attached to this assignment. She first met Oliver
Hamilton when she tried to sell him some advertising space
for the paper. His haughty, arrogant behavior was such a
turn off. This guy had a big ego. Sure he was gorgeous and
definitely built, but what makes him the cat's meow? To
top it off, her boss informs her that Oliver will be
flying her to the three interviews in exchange for some
free advertising. What a deal! Unfortunately, she
neglected to mention to her boss that flying, especially
in a small aircraft, is one of Emma's biggest fears. How
is she going to get herself out of this one?
Little did Emma imagine that this assignment would be a
turning point in her life. From the little stray dog who
steals her heart, to the three women who share their
greatest life stories, Emma learns some valuable life
lessons that will change how she views the world forever.
Although Oliver may have an attitude, Emma slowly learns
that he is a romantic at heart. If only she could make the
leap of faith and trust him with her heart.
Debbie Macomber's THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT CHRISTMAS
touches the reader's heart and soul. It is a light and
delightful read perfect for the holiday season. Her
writing style flows and her characters are warm, loving
people. This book is the ideal gift for the person who has
everything. Not to mention, it will also tempt the reader
to give the not-so-well loved fruitcake recipe another
try.
Emma Collins has always believed that the world is divided
into two kinds of people: those who love fruitcake and those
who don't. She's firmly in the second category, so it's
ironic that her first major assignment for the Puyallup,
Washington, Examiner is a series of articles about...
fruitcake. At least it's a step up from writing obituaries.
Her task is to interview the finalists in a fruitcake recipe
contest, and that means traveling around the state.
Actually... flying around the state. Local pilot
Oliver Hamilton, who's starting an airfreight business, has
agreed to take her wherever she needs to go, in exchange for
free advertising. Unfortunately Emma hates small
planes--almost as much as she hates fruitcake.
But in the weeks leading up to Christmas, Emma falls for
Oliver (who's not quite the Scrooge he sometimes seems) and
his mutt, Oscar (who's allergic to her perfume, which makes
him sneeze repeatedly). And she meets three wise women who
know a lot about fruitcake--and even more about life.
It all reminds her that there's something about Christmas.
Something special...
