Prayer Ambassadors Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy are back this holiday season, along with their newest protege Will. It's New Year's Eve, and Lucie Ferrara and Aren Fairchild exchange a kiss in Times Square due to a little unsolicited help from Will. Immediately sparks fly and the couple spends the rest of their night getting to know each other. Rather than exchanging numbers, the two agree to meet seven days later at the top of the Empire State building. Sadly, Lucie never shows up, leaving Aren wondering where he went wrong.
Despite Lucie and Aren having already met rather than according to God's timetable, the angels feel confident they can get them back on track. As Lucie devotes her time making her restaurant Heavenly Delights a huge success, Aren is busying establishing himself as the anonymous food critic at the New York Gazette. When Aren's assignment brings him to Lucie's doorstep, the angels interfere once again in hopes of reigniting the couple's budding romance. Yet due to Lucie's demanding schedule that night, the two never meet.
Unbeknownst to Aren, he writes a less than favorable review. By doing so, he inadvertently threatens to ruin Lucie's culinary career. The angels are in big trouble with their boss Gabriel when he finds out about their interference. So, a return visit to Heavenly Delights is in order to rectify Aren's review and allow the pair to finally meet again. As their relationship develops, Aren fears their future is in jeopardy when Lucie discovers his true identity. With strict orders from above, the angels must let go and allow the pair to put their faith in God.
ANGELS AT THE TABLE is a delightful Christmas story by the prolific New York Times bestselling author Debbie Macomber. As her readers have come to expect, this heartwarming romance is a quick, joyful read with charming characters and tender moments. Despite being a somewhat predictable plot, the story is just right for a few hours of literary pleasure nestled in a cozy blanket while enjoying the warmth of a crackling fire on a cold winter night.
