Madison Buckner is trying to start her life over with a new job in Sandwich, Illinois. She completed cosmetology school and is now employed at Sandwich Cut N' Style. She only gets walk-ins right now and her first one is the very handsome Rueben Callahan, owner of the Sandwich Emporium, a restaurant chain he's trying to build and carry on his father's wishes. Long nights of overseeing the restaurant and trying to balance the books have made him very exhausted.
As Maddie begins his cut, Rueben falls asleep in the chair and nods his head with the first snip of her scissors. She cuts a 4" chunk of hair that totally ruins his "look." Just as that happens, her boss walks in and Maddie's world is upended. Maddie gets fired on the spot and is asked to take her things and leave. Could life get any worse? And just when there was hope of settling down and getting her little brother out of foster care.
Reuben feels badly about what happened and tracks Maddie down, offering her a job as a waitress in his restaurant. Reluctantly, she takes it, knowing she's not cut out for waitressing. She immediately proves that as she dumps a whole plate of food in the mayor's lap. After being summoned to Reuben's office and seeing the mess there, Maddie offers to be his assistant and help get him organized. His office is indeed a wreck, and he knows he is barely keeping ahead of the paperwork. This arrangement works out great, until Reuben's long-time girlfriend, Livy, gets jealous. She begins pressing Reuben to make a firm commitment to their relationship and Reuben begins having second thoughts.
Travel to this enchanting little town of Sandwich and visit with Reuben's delightfully endearing family. This is a story about relationships, forgiveness, leaving your past behind and starting over, trying to hold on to God's promises for your life. Find out if Maddie gets her little brother out of foster care and what happens with Reuben and Livy's relationship. This is indeed a SANDWICH WITH A SIDE OF ROMANCE. It's a great fun read!
