Romance

Everyone is familiar with the tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet. If you didn't not study or read it in school, you have seen the movie. Rebecca Serle takes that unforgettable story of Romeo & Juliet, complete with love, feuding families, and tragic ends. We get to see an entirely new side to this well known story....Rosaline's story. Rosaline Caplet, lives in Southern California with her parents. She is a senior at San Bellaro High School, which she attends with her best friends Charlie, Olivia, and Rob. Rose and Rob have grown up next door to each other for most of their lives but the last few months, she has realized that her feelings for him are more than just friendship. Rob has always been a huge part of her life. They were going to college together, there we meant to be together. But just as things start to come together for Rose and Rob, Juliet comes back to town. Rose hasn't see Juliet since they were kids. At the age of seven, a family feud had come between Rose and Juliet's fathers that caused Juliet's family to move to LA. Ten years later, they are back. Juliet comes back not the friendly girl that Rose use to know and love. She moves in on Rob immediately. Rose develops a relationship with Len Stephens. The scruffy, annoying bad boy from school who ends up being assigned her Biology partner. Len knows Rose devastated about Rob's new relationship and tries his best to comfort her but also show her that maybe Rob was never hers to begin with. With the writing of WHEN YOU WERE MINE Rebecca Serle wrote an extremely heartbreaking, and beautiful take on William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. There is so much feeling written in the pages....that you will not want to put it down. Rebecca writes of Rosaline's heartbreak, betrayals, and a new chance at love with someone she never even gave a second look to.

SUMMARY

In this intensely romantic, modern recounting of the greatest love story ever told, Romeo’s original intended— Juliet’s cousin Rosaline—tells her side of the tale. What’s in a name, Shakespeare? I’ll tell you: Everything. Rosaline knows that she and Rob are destined to be together. Rose has been waiting for years for Rob to kiss her—and when he finally does, it’s perfect. But then Juliet moves back to town. Juliet, who used to be Rose’s best friend. Juliet, who now inexplicably hates her. Juliet, who is gorgeous, vindictive, and a little bit crazy...and who has set her sights on Rob. He doesn’t even stand a chance. Rose is devastated over losing Rob to Juliet. This is not how the story was supposed to go. And when rumors start swirling about Juliet’s instability, her neediness, and her threats of suicide, Rose starts to fear not only for Rob’s heart, but also for his life. Because Shakespeare may have gotten the story wrong, but we all still know how it ends….
