Lacey Garnet runs an occult store, but few people know that she is actually a witch. Not only is Lacey a witch, but she is also possessed by the Demon Goddess, Lilith. Lacey called upon Lilith when her coven was massacred by the witch hunting Vatican agents. It has been hundreds of years since The Inquisition happened, but the Vatican has never stopped looking for anyone with a magical side. Lacey tries to keep a low profile in her occult store, but when a mysterious customer walks through the doors of her store, Lacey finds she has become the target of the Vatican once again.
The minute Lacey lays eyes on Sebastian, she knew it was lust at first sight. But something about the unearthly beauty of Sebastian made Lacey believe he wasn't quite human. Not only did the occult shopping hunk not have an aura, but he seems to have a strange aversion to sunlight. Although Lacey tries to not to get involved, she unknowingly recaptures the attention of the Vatican when she befriends Sebastian.
Not only does Sebastian come with witch hunting Vatican agents who are attempting to hunt down an incantation Sebastian concocted to create vampires, but the hunky vampire warlock also comes with an angsty teenage son who has never quite given up home of his parents reuniting. Unfortunately, Sebastian and his ex, Tereza stand little chance of patching things up, especially since she has been dead and buried for a few hundred years.
Only, Tereza isn't quite dead or undead. Instead, she is the victim of Sebastian's incantation the Vatican are keen to acquire. Still, Tereza's son has not given up hope of Tereza being alive or undead. So, he digs her up every once in a while just to make sure. As if Lacey didn't have enough to deal with with Vatican agents popping up in disguise, a new love interest who turns out to be a vampire warlock. Now, her ex-boyfriend, Daniel Parrish, who also happens to be a vampire, suddenly pops up and needs a place to stay.
TALL. DARK & DEAD provides the best of both worlds for vampire lovers and those who prefer their novels with a little magic and a spell or two! I loved Sebastian and Lacey's initial encounter and how Lacey eventually discovers all the skeletons in Sebastian's past. Tate Hallaway really delivers a humorous attraction between Sebastian and Lacey. Unfortunately, as the novel prepares to wrap up, I found myself losing interest. I felt the novel lost much of its spark at the pivotal moment when Sebastian and Lacey were preparing to face to the Vatican. I also thought Daniel's reappearance was awkward and did not fit into the novel well. TALL, DARK, AND DEAD will still delight those who love a novel with a witch and a vampire with a witch-load of chemistry and a side of sarcasm.
