BAD BOY is actually the continuation of Hot Girl, which I have not read. Fortunately, the author keeps this in mind and does a very good job of breaching the storyline from one book to the next, without forcing us to read the first book 'first'.
BAD BOY was a great read, mainly because the main character Kate is such a down to earth, smart girl. Despite being in the foster care system and being bounced around various homes, she manages to keep her wits and smarts about her, without using the cards life dealt her as an excuse to do horrible things that will get her in trouble.
Despite all of her brains, Kate finds herself dating Percy - - the guy who seemed 'too good to be true'. As they continue their relationship, he starts showing her his true side, the side that Kate does not like at all. What follows is a harrowing story of abuse, which is played out very well by the author. We witness Kate's growing awareness that Percy is not as he first appears. We get to experience her sadness, disappointments and fear as she realizes that she is in a relationship with someone who could/can harm her.
BAD BOY is intense and I found myself rooting for Kate which made this read highly enjoyable.
Dream Jordan is back with a follow-up to the acclaimed Hot Girl Kate is devastated to find herself back in a group home after a peaceful year of living with her loving foster parents, Lynn and Ted. The fantasy life of having the perfect family has come to an abrupt end and Kate's reeling from having to return to the place she's fought so hard to avoid. Sad and lonely, Kate soon falls prey to the dangerous affections of Percy, a good looking but shady young man. He treats her well at first, manipulating her already broken heart, and soon a cycle of controlling and abusive behavior begins. Now Kate finds herself trapped and unable to be the strong, independent girl she's tried her whole life to be. But this Brooklyn-born girl is never one to let a bad situation keep her down for too long. Told in Kate's sassy, witty voice, Bad Boy is all about staying strong and remaining true to yourself even when it seems like the whole world is out to get you.
