Getting answers to the "why" questions in life sometimes yield unexpected surprises. Georgia Peyton has asked those questions for years. Why did her parents leave her with her Aunt Cora and never return? Why did her husband, O'Dell cheat on her, even before they married? Why would Aunt Cora never go to visit her Uncle Paddy who lived right here in Mayhaw, TX? Georgia's world is turned upside down when O'Dell is found dead in the bayou.
Georgia is left alone with two little girls to raise, thankfully a debt-free house, but no means of income to support them. The $5,000 insurance policy won't go far. Then she learns that her Uncle Paddy has passed away and left her the Stardust Tourist Cottages. They are quite run down and have not had customers in some time now. But Georgia decides she is going to make some changes in her life and tackles the renovations herself, with the help of a few friends and the insurance money.
While working on the cottages, Peter Reese comes along looking for some work while his car is being repaired. He is just the handyman Georgia needs to get the cottages ready for opening the Memorial Day weekend. Ludi, Merciful and Catfish are a God-send too. They live behind the five acres the cottages sit on in the woods by the bayou, a place called Zion.
On Memorial Day weekend, Georgia's first guests at the cottages are an unusual cacophony of individuals, some of which she will discover hold answers to some of her "why" questions. As she gets to know each one, some of the answers she has been seeking begin to unfold.
STARDUST is a delightful story about making bad choices in life, then making more bad choices to try to correct them. Withholding the truth from those you love is not always the best way to protect them. You'll love Georgia's character, open, kind-hearted and faithful. This story is truly inspirational, with an air of mystery and a touch of romance. Carla Stewart does a superb job of incorporating timely social issues into her story. Fans of historical inspirational fiction will enjoy this read.
Shortly after burying her unfaithful husband, Georgia
Peyton
unexpectedly inherits the derelict Stardust motel from a
distant relative. Despite doubts from the community and the
aunt who raised her, she is determined to breathe new life
into it. But the guests who arrive aren't what Georgia
expects: Her gin-loving mother-in-law; her dead husband's
mistress; an attractive but down-on-his-luck drifter who's
tired of the endless road; and an aging Vaudeville
entertainer with a disturbing link to Georgia's past.
Can Georgia find the courage to forgive those who've
betrayed her, the grace to shelter those who need her, and
the moxy to face the future? And will her dream of a new
life under the flickering neon of the STARDUST ever come
true?
