I am truly thrilled by the fact that more and more books, especially in the Young Adult genre, are incorporating gay and lesbian characters. This is an issue that is extremely "now" and needs to be explored.
ME@YOU.COM is just such a novel - introducing us to the main character who, in the first chapter, tells us that she feels "close" to two tv characters that are gay. Slowly, the story develops, through chat room exchanges mainly where the main character opens up about her love of other women. The strength of this novel, however, is not only the sensitivity with which this is done, but also the fact that we, as a reader, get to discover along with the main character, exactly who she is and what she needs.
I believe that ME@YOU.COM is extremely timely and should be read by all YA (not to mention adults) as it contains an important message - we are all different, but at the core, we are all the same - seeking love, friendship and acceptance.
I loved, loved this sensitive and touching novel.
