Dae O'Donnell is hosting a Mayor's Conference at the Blue Whale Inn. Plans go awry when the edges of the latest hurricane hit the town of Duck, North Carolina.

After the storm passes, they discover a mayor is missing and then Dae discovers a ring and the body in the remnants of the Inn's tool shed. Using her gift of being able to see the history of the object she is holding, Dae learns that someone was threatening Sandi Foxx just before the storm hit.

The election for Mayor of Duck is coming up soon. Her opponent is using every opportunity to smear Dae's name. Despite her desire to stay clear of the investigation, Dae will find herself at the center of it as Duck sets out to clean up the storm damage.
