When I was a young adult I found the original Conan books and truly enjoyed them. So when I saw this book along with the movie that was coming out I was very excited. It may not be the same exact character that we remember but it's a new and just as likeable one. This book is based on the new movie that has recently come out so we the readers are introduced to a new world of Conan.
This is book gives us a lot more insight into the childhood of Conan. We not only get to see what happened in the past to make him the man he is but we also get to see him on an adventure just like we are used to. I enjoyed seeing what shaped Conan into who he is. I am a fan of the character of Conan and enjoyed this version of events. Die hard fans of the original Conan and his author have to remember to take this as another version of the story not a retelling of the books. It shows Conan as more than just a ferocious warrior. He has a heart and it has been broken as well as a soul, it shows Conan as a human who feels. He has loved and lost in his life and fights for what he thinks is right, turning Conan into a great man and the warrior that he becomes.
Not only do we get a good story but we also are treated to some nice pictures in this book. Some pictures from the movie that this book is based on are included, giving us a look at what Hollywood thinks these characters look like. CONAN THE BARBARIAN is an entertaining read that took me right into the magical world of Conan and his adventures and kept me there until the end.
Born in the fires of battle, Conan of Cimmeria lost his
father and village when they were slaughtered by the cruel
warlord Khalra Zym. Wandering the world alone, Conan was
forged into a peerless warrior by hardship and bloodshed.
Years later, he crosses paths with Zym and his armies. But
before Conan can exact vengeance, he must contend with the
warlord's daughter-the seductive witch Marique-and a host of
monstrous creatures. Only then will Conan's quest bring him
face to gave with Zym in an epic battle to avenge his people
and save the world.
