LORD OF RAGE was a wonderful addition to this remarkable
series! Jill Monroe was able to take Goldilocks and the
Three Bears and throw in a Berserker! What more can you ask
for? I love, love, love a Berserker and there are so few
books out there for them. Not to mention that so few of
them are good, I was pleasantly pleased that this one was
worth reading. Ms. Monroe kept true to the fairy tale in
the beginning, it made for some humorous spots in the book.
Throwing in the Berserker aspect to the tale just made it
wonderful.
The story is about Princess Breena, one of four siblings
who have been thrown across the realms when the Blood
Sorcerer killed their parents. Struggling to survive,
Breena finds herself alone in the woods without her magic
to help her. Her memories are shaky at best, and all that
Breena knows is that she must get home and she must have
revenge. When she finds a cottage, Breena hopes that inside
she will find someone willing to help her get back home.
What she finds are three brothers who are trying to meek
out a quiet existence in a world that betrayed them long
ago.
Osborn has been raising his brothers since the night he
became a man. His family, his friends, his people were all
killed by vampires. All that remains of their village is
Osborn and his brothers. He is not at all happy to find a
stranger in their midst. Nor is he happy to find what a
beautiful stranger she is. Osborn's attraction to Breena
can go nowhere. In his mind she deserves someone better
than him; she is a lady and deserves a proper home, a
proper husband, and everything else that he is not.
What Breena needs is a warrior. She needs to learn how to
fight so that she can reclaim her home. What Breena wants
is Osborn and she is not below using every weapon in her
arsenal to get him.
I would recommend reading this series in order. The Royal
House of Shadows is designed to be a series of books that
all lead up to the fourth and final. While it could
be read as a standalone story, I think that LORD OF RAGE
would be better and infinitely more meaningful if read as
part of the series. I really liked the woman that Breena
turned into during this book. You know that she is a
princess and as such has never wanted for anything. I
thought that her experiences with Osborn and his brothers
had a remarkable change on her life. She started out as a
woman who could not take care of herself and grew into a
warrior ready to defend her own. Osborn was an amazing
hero. I loved that he was tortured and driven to deny the
woman that he wanted most. His conflicting emotions drove
him to distance himself and these were all things that kept
him locked in the fear of his past. I really liked the fact
that Ms. Monroe gave Osborn so many bear traits in his
personality. It was almost funny when Breena learned to use
his bear qualities against him. That was just another
little quirk that enriched the story. Osborn also grew
during the story as he realized that there was more to him
than the boy he was. Osborn grew to understand the man he
could be with a little pushing from Breena. These two
complimented each other on so many levels; Lord of Rage was
a fairy tale quite unlike any other.
Princess Breena had been dreaming of her warrior lover when
she was ripped from her Elden castle and thrown into a
strange, dangerous realm. Lost and alone, she prayed for
survival and vengeance for her stolen kingdom. She found
both in a woodland cottage…in a dark bear of a man.
The golden-haired beauty had eaten his food and slept in his
bed when Osborn found her. Though he wanted to awaken his
virgin princess to carnal pleasures, Breena wanted
more—including his warrior skills. Skills the once-legendary
mercenary had long buried. Now Osborn had a choice—risk his
life or deny his princess her fairy-tale ending.
