I have been following the Midnight Breed series since
Kiss of Midnight and this latest addition has swept
me up into the world created by Lara Adrian more than the
rest of them! Steeped in tragedy, loss, and love I thought
that DEEPER THAN MIDNIGHT delivered with a punch that had me
reeling for the next chapter in this stunning series.
One of the things that I love about Ms. Adrian is her ability
to weave past characters into her novels. As a reader, I
appreciate knowing that life for my characters did not end
with their book, that there are new and exciting
developments for them, and that they are still playing
active roles within the series. DEEPER THAN MIDNIGHT gave
me some of my old favorites and brought me closer to the
two main characters than I had imagined possible. The plot
just keeps getting thicker, and the twists and turns of the
evil mind of Dragos clearly know no bounds. Filled with
heart wrenching parts, ecstatic joy in others, I was left
with a feeling of rightness and the eager anticipation for
more.
Hunter, it was what they had called him from birth. Since
times before he could remember Hunter was what he was.
Trained in destruction, Hunter had been taught to destroy
all enemies; emotions were not needed and were beaten out
of him. He had never known a kind hand; he had never known
what it was to protect another person at all costs to
himself. In one instant Hunter saw a new life in the eyes
of a little girl. What Hunter saw in Mira's eyes was a
glimmer into the future and a chance at freedom that he was
willing to chance dying to get. When he chooses freedom
over his life as Dragos' slave Hunter knows that his life
would forever be changed. Working for the Order has given
him something to believe in, it has also given him a look
into the happy lives of those around him. Forever looking
at the chance at love and happiness that he knew he didn't
deserve. One glimpse at Corrine Bishop, the girl he was
charged with seeing home and Hunter knew that something had
changed. Even as he struggled with himself and his emotions
their attraction for each other seemed to be growing at an
alarming rate.
Stolen from her family and held captive for over 75 years,
Corrine Bishop only wishes that she could go home. Go back
to the home of her youth where security and love can
surround her and maybe make her whole again. As her dreams
of home are shattered, Corrine must cling to the only
constant in her life, the Breed male known as Hunter. A
dark and deadly assassin sent to protect her. Can Corrine
trust him with her secrets, her desires, and more
importantly with her heart?
At eighteen, Corinne Bishop was a beautiful, spirited young
woman living a life of privilege as the adopted daughter of
a wealthy family. Her world changed in an instant when she
was stolen away and held prisoner by the malevolent vampire
Dragos. After many years of captivity and torment, Corinne
is rescued by the Order, a cadre of vampire warriors
embroiled in a war against Dragos and his followers. Her
innocence taken, Corinne has lost a piece of her heart as
well—the one thing that gave her hope during her
imprisonment, and the only thing that matters to her now
that she is free.
Assigned to safeguard Corinne on her trip home is a
formidable golden-eyed Breed male called Hunter. Once
Dragos’s most deadly assassin, Hunter now works for the
Order, and he’s hell-bent on making Dragos pay for his
manifold sins. Bonded to Corinne by their mutual desire,
Hunter will have to decide how far he’ll go to end Dragos’s
reign of evil—even if carrying out his mission means
shattering Corinne’s tender heart.
