Eric Yashido doesn't like sleeping on his best friend's
couch. He's here because Kyra, his wife of 20 years, kicked
him out of their home. She read an e-mail that suggested
Eric and a coworker were having an affair. At the time that
wasn't quite accurate, but after Kyra kicked him out, Eric
did commit adultery with Danielle, the coworker. It was the
next morning when he got the phone call that changed his
life.
Kyra has been admitted to a psychiatric hospital after a
car accident. She is not physically hurt, but her mental
state is affected. She believes Eric is dead, and she is
devastated. As Eric talks to the doctor about Kyra's
condition, the doctor decides it is best for Eric to move
back home and let Kyra believe things are just fine with
their marriage. It seems she does not remember kicking him
out.
Eric walks on eggshells around Kyra. He's not sure what to
say to her, how to answer her questions, how to act around
her or how to react to her clinging to him. It's as though
the past few months of conflict in their marriage never
existed. Adding to the conflict is the fact that their son,
Benji, is getting a medical release from the Navy because
he is allergic to fire ants. Benji's return puts additional
strain on the whole relationship nightmare.
Over the course of the next several weeks, Eric goes
through mental torment. He wants to tell Kyra the truth,
but he really wants their relationship to be restored and
to move forward. Little by little, Kyra does start to
remember a few details of their conflict. When an
unsuspecting person questions Kyra about knowing of Eric's
infidelity, Kyra confronts him and throws him out of the
house again, telling him they are finished and this time
she wants a divorce. Eric's world crumbles again.
However, Eric has a better plan this time. Will his plan to
win Kyra back be successful? Even as he and Benji drive
away from their home, Eric holds on to hope.
