Romance Historical | Historical

After her latest suitor breaks his leg, Willa Trent acknowledges she'll be a spinster for life as the incident cements her as a jinx in the village. Orphaned at age 12, Willa lives in the village where her mother and father died of the fever. They were amateur naturalists who taught her to accept life in good humor and face each obstacle with optimism. Those lessons come in handy as Willa accidentally hits a hornets nest with a slingshot that startles a passing horse causing its rider to fall and crack his head on a rock. As Willa tries to help the unconscious stranger, she compromises herself and finds herself hastily wed to the man.

When Nathaniel Stonewell, the Earl of Reardon's, role with French sympathizers is unintentionally revealed, he becomes reviled as "Lord Treason." Nathaniel's family denounces him and his friends and countrymen now despise him. In reality, Nathaniel is the "Cobra," leader of the Royal Four who spy for England. He's sacrificed what he holds dear - his personal honor. After finding himself compromised with a young respectable woman, he can't leave her disgraced.

Nathaniel confesses his crimes to Willa, hoping she'll flee to his country estate. However, Willa proves difficult, and with her forthright manner, she chooses to believe and fight for Nathaniel. He hasn't got a chance!

Ms. Bradley has penned a beautifully written romance that proves love can heal the most wounded heart. Intrigue, blended with humor and sparkling dialogue, sets this tale apart from others. TO WED A SCANDALOUS SPY will bring readers hours of pleasure and joy!

SUMMARY

Lovely, high born Willa Trent was an orphan, raised by a local, somewhat odd family in the country, who want nothing but the best for their girl. So when she drags the unconscious man she accidentally hit with a slingshot home, they arrange a hasty marriage and pack the couple off with best wishes. Armed with a groggy husband and a new future, Willa's pie-eyed optimism has no limits...until she discovers the secret, dangerous world of Nathaniel Stonewell, Earl of Reardon, a.k.a. "Lord Treason."

Though Nathaniel is reviled by most of England for his devious plot against the Crown, he is, in reality, a member of an elite cadre of secret royal defenders on a daring undercover mission. He must keep his secrets at all cost, especially from Willa. And yet, he is enchanted...though he stubbornly refuses to surrender to his passion. Far better, he tells himself, to turn his back on love than risk everything for it. Luckily, his bride has other plans...
