10 years ago, Andrei Solace was given a choice to either join the Federation Military Corps or waste away in jail towards a certain death. Choosing the military and the Phantom Corps was the best decision Andrei ever made. Though leaving behind his friends and Piper Roundtree (the one girl he once loved) was difficult, his situation at the time was a complete dead-end.

Currently, the Phantom Corps has heard rumors that the enemy, the Imperium is creating a device that will cut millions off from trade resources killing more innocent people. The Imperium is transporting goods somehow so Andrei and the Phantom Corp decides to find out what they are up to by using Andrei's contacts from the past to get those answers. Andrei is not surprised by the instant emotions Piper stirs up but he is surprised at how he feels when he arrives to find Piper's compound under attack.

The credits sent over the last 10 years by Andrei Solace are the only confirmation Piper Roundtree and her family have that Andrei is still alive. The credits have kept them all alive over the years, yet regardless of how much Piper is in need of funds, she refuses to run cargo for the Imperium and commit treason against the Federation. Unfortunately, Piper has said no one time too many and the compound is attacked; just as she is pinned down an avenging angel takes down the enemy one by one. After the shooting stops and the dust settles, Piper is taken aback that the angel is none other than Andrei himself. The first emotion Piper feels after relief is anger so hauling off and punching Andrei seems perfect at the time. Andrei needs her help but Piper wants his love.

This is Lauren Dane's third and latest addition to the futuristic Phantom Ops series...and, wow! What a sexy and fun read. Dane has a way of making the futures seem so real and believable with characters that just pop off the page. Love it!
