Colt McAlister was born into a military family, which has prepared him to deal with head-on confrontation. But nothing has prepared him to deal with the death of both his parents. Yet it happens, in the form of a car accident just after Colt was attacked by what he believes to have been a squid or an octopus while surfing. And nothing has prepared him for the family secrets he uncovers in the wake of his loss -- revelations that shake his understanding of the very nature of his world.
He moves from surf-friendly California to dry Arizona to live with his grandfather. When he finds himself pursued by mind-controlled human drones, he begins to wonder if his parents' death was really an accident, and if one of the most powerful companies in the world, Trident Biotech, might not be behind it. Mind control might be a big deal, but Colt's childhood friend Dani and his new friend Oz (who he has met before -- just before he has his memory wiped in the prologue), help him uncover bigger secrets. Alien secrets. Secrets said aliens will stop at nothing to keep hidden.
From flying motorcycles to underwater fights, the action is pretty much non-stop, making this a quick page-turner that will appeal to reluctant readers. INVASION will also appeal to comic book fans, which is fitting, considering that Lewis also writes comics. INVASION keeps referring to a super-hero known as the Phantom Flyer, who was the star of a whole series of comics in Colt's grandfather's day. Interestingly, the Phantom Flier, did appear once in a real comic, Contact Comic #5 (1945), where, just like INVASION says, he faced off against the Nazis.
The science-fiction world is well developed, and the technology is flashy and fun. This is the first book in the C.H.A.O.S. series.
He didn't ask for the job, but now all that stands between
us and chaos . . . is Colt.
