Dr. Elizabeth Iverson walked out of FBI agent Drake
McGuire's life years ago after a steamy weekend in Atlanta.
Despite their chemistry, she just couldn't bear to carry
the worry in her heart that a wife or girlfriend must do
when they're in a relationship with a man in a dangerous
profession. At the time, Elizabeth was engaged to another
man anyway.
Fast-forward several years. Elizabeth is a successful
doctor living in Chicago raising her young daughter as a
single parent. One evening, while giving a speech at a
college banquet, Elizabeth finds herself at a loss for
words as Drake suddenly appears in the doorway. After
freezing onstage at the sight of him, the two run into each
other in the lobby. Despite a chilly reception between
them, there's undeniable heat that the years hasn't
diminished.
Unbeknownst to Elizabeth, Drake follows her home that
evening, just in time for her to walk in and find out her
good friend Julie has been murdered in her apartment. Drake
immediately gets pulled into the investigation and appoints
himself Elizabeth's guardian until the police have time to
solve the murder.
In the meantime, there are many questions to unravel. Why
did Elizabeth really walk out on Drake the first time? What
happened to her fiancé? Who is the father of her young
daughter? Who killed her friend? Was the killer really
looking for Elizabeth? Why is Drake in Chicago looking for
Elizabeth now?
Oh, so many questions to be answered! This story
immediately captured my attention and held it for the
entire book. The author dished out the story at a fast-
paced, interesting clip. If you like a mix of romance,
murder and mystery -- this one is for you!
