Young Adult Paranormal

Being a Chicago native, I just could not pass this book up. Loving the supernatural, especially vampires, I had to see just what Chloe Neill had to say in this installment of the Chicagoland Vampires series. I was pleased to discover that this book is well written and fast paced; keeping the reader entertained all the way through to the end. TWICE BITTEN is the third book in the series. To be able to follow the story, I recommend that you start with the first book. With characters full of depth, this book is a good read. Merit, a new vamp trying to hone her abilities, is under the guidance of Ethan, her vampire master. With the nation's shapeshifters convening in Chicago, Merit is charged with protecting the alpha, Gabriel Keene, while trying to determine who wants him dead. As Merit and Ethan deal with assassins and explosions, they must also deal with their own feelings. Their relationship definitely steams up the pages. Merit is a strong willed woman but, at times, she seems a bit over enthralled with Ethan; almost to the point that she loses touch with the rest of the world. Hopefully, as this series progresses, we will see their relationship become more balanced. Though this book is definitely not a love story, it is a personal and touching story. In addition to the relationship, I enjoyed the many supernaturals we are introduced to in this book and the political hierarchy that comes with each. Their conflicts with the vampire world made for an interesting read. TWICE BITTEN is a nice addition to the Chicagoland Vampires series. Chloe Neill does a good job of pulling you in and keeping you turning the pages until the end. If you enjoy vampires and action, this is the book for you.

SUMMARY

Shapeshifters from across the country are convening in the Windy City, and as a gesture of peace, Master Vampire Ethan Sullivan has offered their leader a very special bodyguard: Merit, Chicago's newest vampire. Merit is supposed to protect the Alpha, Gabriel Keene-and to spy for the vamps while she's at it. Oh, and luckily Ethan's offering some steamy, one-on-one combat training sessions to help her prepare for the mission.

Unfortunately, someone is gunning for Gabriel, and Merit soon finds herself in the line of fire. She'll need all the help she can get to track down the would-be assassin, but everywhere she turns, there are rising tensions between supernaturals-not least between her and a certain green-eyed, centuries-old master vampire.
