Dae O'Donnell took the job as mayor of Duck, North Carolina because it is a tradition for her family to serve the community. Her talent for finding lost items is well known and accepted in town. When one of the oldest residents in town, Miss Mildred seeks her help if finding her missing watch, Dae sees something that she never expected.

Miss Mildred and her sister, Elizabeth have a long running feud and Mildred is sure that Elizabeth took the watch. When Dae goes to investigate, she meets the new guy in town. Kevin Brickman has bought the old inn in Duck and is in the process of restoring it. He isn't sure about Dae's talents but is very drawn to her.

As Miss Elizabeth's body is found with the watch, events in town will spiral out of control. Dae finds herself in the thick of the investigation since the police chief has focused on Miss Mildred as the killer. Dae is determined to prove Mildred innocent and will call on Kevin for help in the investigation.

Soon, Kevin is seeking Dae's help in finding a missing key to unlock a room in the inn. When another body is found, the mystery deepens. This body has been there for many years but seems to have a connection to the death of Miss Elizabeth.

Dae's efforts will put her in peril. Kevin will help her solve the mysteries plaguing the town and start a relationship that neither was looking for.

The Lavene's have started a new series with this book, which looks to be a winner. I'm a big fan of their Peggy Lee series and this one ranks very close to those. The characters are always interesting and entertaining. The mystery is mutli-faceted and complex. Once you pick up book by these authors, you won't want to put it down until you have finished.
