Cole McTiernay abhors all things English. As a lad, he
suffered terribly at English hands and he vowed revenge.
Now, Cole has become a fierce warrior and a man of few
words with little patience for people. While awaiting the
council's decision on whether or not he is to be named
laird of a group of rag tag men and women left leaderless,
he agrees to carry out an errand for his half-English
sister-in-law. Cole wonders how she managed to talk him
into riding into England to pick up something from an
English baron. He certainly did not expect that something
to be a person, a very smelly though highly cunning lass.
Nor did he expect that she would turn out to surprise him
at almost every turn, and be quite efficient at seeing
through the mask he shows to the outside world. What did
he do to receive such a spirited woman to give him a hard
time? How did she manage to penetrate his armor and have
him reassessing his views on the English or at least this
English woman?
Ellenor Howell is a prisoner. The night of her father's
death shattered her world and left her irrevocably
changed. Now she is at the mercy of her hateful brother-in-
law, who intends to marry her off to the highest bidder.
Ellenor has no intention of being any man's possession, and
she sets forth her own plan which includes refusing to
bathe and acting crazy until the right time comes for her
to make her escape. Unfortunately, a few Scots come to
collect her, and she finds herself on her way north. The
change of scenery does not change her plans, yet her every
attempt at escape is foiled by Cole. She recognizes
something in Cole that calls to her, and she can easily
read the emotions that he tries to hide. Can she really
trust these men when they will not tell her what they want
with her or where they are going? Why does she feel the
need to crawl into Cole's arms and stay there protected
from the world?
Michele Sinclair generates an extremely engaging historical
romance. She has created two strong characters, and theirs
is a battle of wills to the end. Cole acts the part of
tortured hero rather well, but it is fun to see someone
stand up to him and start to break apart his rough
exterior. Ellenor plays the feisty heroine determined to
make it on her own, but obstacles, mainly in the form of
Cole, keep blocking her way. Cole and Ellenor have a great
chemistry together and their interactions are
entertaining. I found this tale to be quite amusing, a bit
charming, and a thoroughly enjoyable read. DESIRING THE
HIGHLANDER brings together two traumatized souls and gives
them the chance to heal. Ms. Sinclair has gained another
fan, and I cannot wait to see what fate throws at the
McTiernay clan next.
Seven McTiernay brothers, each a highlander born to
protect Scotland and her people, warriors known for their
quick wits and quicker broadswords. The third brother, Cole,
stared death in the face when he was only a boy...
Now
Cole McTeirnay is a man. And though he resists them in every
way, he has responsibilities. The wild northern Highlands
need a laird who can guide them to peace. Cole has the army
strong enough to accomplish this task. What he doesn't have
is the desire—to be a leader among men...
And so he is
sent off on a fool's errand: a mission to retrieve something
from the very Englishmen Cole has spent his life hating.
When he finds that the 'something' is a wild hellion, he
balks, determined to make the return to Scotland as hard on
her as it was for him to set foot on English soil. But
though English herself, Ellenor intrigues him with her
fierce spirit, and Cole's heart, deeply locked away for so
long, may be vulnerable at last...
