Fantasy

Opal LaZelle is a makeup artist. Her abilities at making monsters appear real is envied by others in her profession. What they don't know is the Opal has magical skills which makes her makeup impossible to replicate. Opal has just taken a new job to work exclusively with actor Corvus Weather.

Corvus is 7 feet 2 inches tall. He's made his mark acting in horror films. He makes a perfect villain and this movie is the next step in his plan to become a star. As the filming starts, strange events are happening. The color of Cor's eye change when he is in characters. One of the other makeup artists is snippy with Corvus and her cheek is burned. Other actors seemed enthralled by him in his costume.

When Corvus' character of the Dark God makes advances to Opal, she realizes that Corvus is possessed. As time goes on, Opal negotiates with Phrixos, the demon that possess the body of Corvus, that he will allow Corvus to emerge if she replenishes his energy.

As events unfold, Opal calls on her family for help in discovering the source of the possession and the unusual energy she feels at the site.

An unusual combination of magic, and otherworldly creatures this was an intriguing story with a lot of unexpected twists and turns. At first, it seemed like it was going to take a turn into horror. Then unexpectedly, it took a different turn. My only complaint about the story was that it seemed to end abruptly. The author has definitely left it open to write a sequel. Otherwise, the story shows incredible imagination.

SUMMARY

Opal LaZelle is a special effects make-up artist, transforming actors into fantastical and grotesque creatures. Unknown to the casts and crews of the films she works on, Opal is gifted in the art of magic—and she applies more than make-up when altering an actor’s features.

Her latest job requires turning Corvus Weather into a dark god of the forest. But when Corvus’s performance becomes too convincing—on set and off—Opal realizes he’s not acting. Something has taken possession of Corvus. Something sinister tied to the town’s past, with the ability to absorb the very essence of life. Something Opal doesn’t have enough power to confront, much less drive from the man she has fallen in love with.
