Romance Contemporary

For as long as she can remember, all Samantha Sweeting ever dreamed of was becoming a lawyer. Most little girls dream of their wedding day with a beautiful white wedding gown and a handsome prince. Not Samantha! Her dreams were always a little different. She'd imagine herself in a dark, black suit with a crisp white shirt, hair neatly tucked in a chignon and a leather briefcase in her right hand, just like her mother, the barrister. Isn't that what all little girls aspire to be? No time for a social life, but who needs one anyway? Samantha is well on her way to becoming partner in the most sought after law firm in London, Carter Spink. It's so close she can practically taste it. So what she hasn't had a vacation in years or even a decent night's sleep! It will all be worth it once she becomes a partner, or so she thinks.

When the much anticipated morning finally arrives, Samantha finds herself privy to some inside information and discovers that her name will soon be on the firm's door. Trying to bide time until the official announcement is made, Samantha decides to tidy her messy desk and discovers a memo from one of the senior partners. He has requested a simple transaction to register a security document worth fifty million pounds. No problem! Samantha can complete this task with her eyes closed. But wait! It's dated May 26th! How can that be? That's five weeks ago! This can't be happening to me, thinks Samantha! I don't make careless mistakes! My career is ruined! I'll never make partner now!

Dazed and confused, Samantha sneaks out of the office, takes a ride on the tube, gets drunk and winds up lost somewhere in the English countryside. Looking for some aspirin and a glass of water, she knocks upon the door of a beautiful manor and finds herself face to face with a bleached blonde millionaire who will change Samantha's life forever.

Thinking she has come from the agency for the domestic interview, the wealthy Mrs. Geiger is instantly taken with Samantha's charms and decides to hire her for the position. Unable to put up a protest, Samantha decides to go along with the ruse just as long as she can get a couple of aspirin and perhaps a warm bed. After spending a few days at the estate, Samantha has convinced the Geigers' that she truly is the ideal domestic although she's never cooked or cleaned a day in her life. With no job to return to, not to mention the humiliation she'd have to face from her peers, Samantha decides to stick it out and play the part of the merry maid until she can straighten out the mess she has left behind.

Sophie Kinsella is no stranger to the New York Times Best Seller List and THE UNDOMESTIC GODDESS is no exception. Kinsella entices the reader into Samantha's world with her humor, wit and laugh out loud scenes. From one escapade to the next, it is difficult to get a good night's sleep because this book is just too hard to put down. Kinsella weaves a web of romance, intrigue and good old fashion fun. This is a feel-good book that makes the reader stop and question the true importance in life. With all the death and destruction in our lives today, this book is a welcome escape that will leave a smile on your face and warmth in your heart.

SUMMARY

Workaholic attorney Samantha Sweeting has just done the unthinkable. She’s made a mistake so huge, it’ll wreck any chance of a partnership.

Going into utter meltdown, she walks out of her London office, gets on a train, and ends up in the middle of nowhere. Asking for directions at a big, beautiful house, she’s mistaken for an interviewee and finds herself being offered a job as housekeeper. Her employers have no idea they’ve hired a lawyer -- and Samantha has no idea how to work the oven. She can’t sew on a button, bake a potato, or get the #@%# ironing board to open. How she takes a deep breath and begins to cope–and finds love–is a story as delicious as the bread she learns to bake.

But will her old life ever catch up with her? And if it does...will she want it back?
