Romance Historical

Dance your way through the mystical and romantic life of Diamond Sharp, AKA Grace Rutherford, in Anna Davis' latest book, THE JEWEL BOX. Set in London during the 1920s, Diamond writes a social column for the Piccadilly Herald about the best restaurants and clubs, the latest fashions and crazes, and the night life of this rainy city. Recall with her the fads of the times: flappers, the Charleston, short bobs and shorter dresses. As two handsome American writers compete for Grace's attention, she recalls romantic rivalries from her past. Two other young men vied for her heart years ago, yet she ended up with neither. She has let love pass her by to do the "right thing" for her family. She is the glue that holds her family together and cannot bring herself to hurt those she holds so dear. Will she ever know love? Will love find its way to her? She may "tell all" in her social column, but Grace is the keeper of the secrets of many; from her own secret identity as Diamond Sharp to her secrets about the cruelties of war, the infidelities of her sister's husband and her own parents, and the secrets held between her two American suitors. Grace must decide if it is right to keep the "jewels" in the box and sacrifice her own happiness and desires. Although she lives a clandestine life as a party hopper, Grace is more than just an advertising copywriter for Pearson and Pearson Advertising; she's a voice for equal rights in the workplace for women, as well as an advocate for the woman's right to vote in England. She's not afraid to lend her opinion on these issues in both her newspaper column and her advertising venue. Davis certainly captures the essence of a nostalgic era of smoky clubs, dancing the night away and the intriguing atmosphere of romance. She packs a lot of history into this novel, along with the romance, rivalries and secrets. Don't miss this great read.

SUMMARY

Grace Rutherford is the one and only Diamond Sharp, the "it" girl of 1920s London, whose weekly newspaper column delights readers with tales of her nightly escapades -- the dinners, the dancing, the fashion, the men. Caught up in the glitz and glamour of the day, Grace begins a passionate affair with charming, flirtatious American author Dexter O'Connell. Soon, though, she falls for John Cramer, the charismatic neighbor her widowed younger sister adores. Irresistibly drawn to both men, Grace discovers they are bitter enemies and finds herself tangled up in the mesh of secrets and lies that binds them together. Which man, if either, can she trust?
