Cin Craven was descended from a long line of witches. Her powers were immense and they have only increased since she became a vampire. Cin loved Michael even though their status was so far apart. When he transforms her into a vampire, Cin knows that their love will last forever. She and Michael are part of the Righteous, a band of slayers that hunt down vampires who inflict evil on the world. Their friends, Justine and Devlin, are also slayers. They will travel with Drake, a representative of the High King to Marrakesh.
Their latest mission is to determine whether the rumors of the Queen of the Western lands killing people are true. Their task is more difficult when they discover a beautiful woman, Bel, at court. She seems to be doing her best to entice the King away from his wife. Cin is drawn to the Queen and finds it hard to believe that she is responsible for the deaths. However, the blackouts the Queen is experiencing seem to indicate her guilt.
Cin and Michael will be forced to deal Drake and his determined effort to seduce Cin. Bel does her best to seduce Michael or any man who will do her bidding. They will also face a band of vampires who have decided to take over the city. Cin will have to deal with a darkness which could cause her to lose control and destroy all around her. Throw in a werewolf and Cin's scary aunt and you have the making of an enjoyable story.
While not a fan of vampire books, there was enough suspense and humor to keep my interest in GRAVE SINS. The characters were intriguing without being too outrageous. While it is obvious that it is a sequel to another book, it stands on its own very well.
