Rowan an Morgaine is the future leader of the Dyadd, and would be ruling them now if not for Lucien Andrakkar, a dragon shape shifter, and his insistence that she belong to him. Instead, she has sought sanctuary on Earth with her brother, Bastian, who will keep her safe at all costs until they are able to return to their own realm. When Lucien finds their refuge, Bastian gives her into the care of Gabriel MacInnes and his pack of shape shifters. Rowan does not want the protection of a male, but since they have a common enemy, she will take the extra help. Unfortunately, she did not count on being so attracted to her protector. Will she accept his advances when she has lost so much by refusing the suit of another man? Is she supposed to tie herself solely to one man or live her life restricted by no man?
Gabriel MacInnes is the second son of his pack's leader, and he has always liked the lack of responsibility that came with being born second. He is content to run his pub, and continue stringing along several women. When Rowan is handed into his care, Gabriel takes this responsibility very seriously. He will allow no harm to come to her especially from the Andrakkars, the enemy of his werewolf pack. However, the more time he spends around the stubborn female, the more he wants to conquer her. To make matters worse, he knows that she is his mate, and he is determined to stake his claim. Will he be able to break through her defenses and win her over? Or will he forever be linked to someone who does not wish to be tied to only one man?
Kendra Leigh Castle offers up an enchanting read for her second novel. We once again meet up with the MacInnes werewolves and the evil Andrakkars, but this time we are introduced to the Dyadds, another powerful race. Rowan is a head strong female who knows what she wants and is not afraid to go after it. Gabriel can be a bit stubborn too, and will do anything in his power to make sure no harm comes to his mate. As a pair, they are electrifying as they are bound and determined to prove themselves right. Ms. Castle quickly draws us into the fantasy world that she created and captivates us with the exotic creatures that inhabit it. This series is exceptional, and I am sure it will only get better. DARK HIGHLAND FIRE is an exhilarating paranormal romance laced with danger, and I cannot wait to see where Ms. Castle takes us next.
