Georgina Kincaid is a succubus with the dual problem of
disliking her job—not working for Hell, per se, but of
stealing the souls of her unsuspecting victims—and having a
human boyfriend that her job prevents her from being
intimate with. If it's not one thing it's another for
Georgina. First, she has to keep sleeping around and soul
stealing to remain in Hell's good graces, but she also has
to hide her activities so she doesn't hurt her boyfriend's
feelings. True, Seth knows Georgie's a succubus, and he
supposedly doesn't care, but no one wants to see their
girlfriend glowing with another man's life force. Then she
has to mentor a new (and hopeless) succubus in her area, who
hasn't a clue how to bag a man. Finally, when SUCCUBUS
DREAMS begins, Georgina has the added problem of waking up
drained every time she gets a fix.
SUCCUBUS DREAMS is the third story in Richelle Mead's
Georginia Kincaid story, and focuses on how Georgina gets
herself out of the aforementioned fixes. The first two books
focused on how Georgina managed to build a relationship with
a human, despite the danger involved in what she does. But
this book focuses more on what happens now that they have a
relationship. Can you remain with someone when there's no
physical intimacy, but the emotional intimacy abounds? And
then there's Georgina's shady succubus intern, who—despite
Barbie-like proportions and the ability to seduce men
inherently—just can't seem to bag a guy. Which wouldn't be
such a bad thing if Georgina didn't get punished for the new
succubus's lack of success. Georgina has no problems bagging
a man herself, it's just that she wakes the morning after
completely drained and with no idea how she got that way.
Combined with a band of rogue angels in the Seattle area,
and SUCCUBUS DREAMS sets you up for an entertaining story in
deed.
Richelle Mead is one of those rare authors who writes in a
saturated market—I love paranormal romance, but I'm the
first too admit that there are way too many of them right
now—but does it with such wit and style that you want to
read her books regardless. Georgina Kincaid is that rare
breed of heroine who you want to hate (she's beautiful, she
can have any man she wants, and if she's having a bad hair
day she can just shape-shift it better), but who is so
endearing and entertaining that you can't help but
empathize. This is one of those series that keeps me coming
back for more and eagerly anticipating what comes next. This
book didn't disappoint me in that respect. Georgina as a
character is more fully developed in this story and it's not
nearly as light-hearted as the previous two books. The
journey of these books is an emotional one, but well worth
every twist and turn. If you haven't read the series before,
start with the first book SUCCUBUS DREAMS, but fans of the
series won't be disappointed with this addition to the
offerings.
Some days, a girl just can’t catch a break...
...especially when the girl in question is Georgina
Kincaid, a shape-shifting succubus who gets her energy from
seducing men. First there’s her relationship with gorgeous
bestselling writer Seth Mortensen, which is unsatisfying on
a number of levels. It’s not just that they can’t have sex
in case Georgina inadvertently kills him (generally a turn-
off for most guys). Lately, even spending time together is
a challenge. Seth's obsessed with finishing his latest
novel, and Georgina's under demonic orders to mentor the
new (and surprisingly inept) succubus on the block.
Then there are the dreams. Someone, or something, is
preying on Georgina at night, draining her energy, and
supplying eerie visions of her future. Georgina seeks
answers from Dante, a dream interpreter with ties to the
underworld, but his flirtatious charm only leaves her more
confused—especially as the situation with Seth reaches
crisis point. Now Georgina faces a double challenge—rein in
her out-of-control love life, and go toe-to-toe with an
enemy capable of wreaking serious havoc among mankind.
Otherwise, Georgina, and the entire mortal world, may never
sleep easy again...
