Mystery Hobbies

Kiki Lowenstein has two loves in her life—her eleven-year-old daughter Anya and scrapbooking. Although her marriage to George isn't a love match, she's reasonably content in their well-to-do lifestyle. So it's a total shock when she's informed by two St. Louis detectives that her husband was found dead in a hotel room under suspicious circumstances. It's even more surprising when Kiki learns that her husband embezzled from the company he co-owns and left his life insurance to his mother.

Forced to go back to work to support herself and her daughter, Kiki is lucky enough to land a job working for her favorite scrapbooking store. The best thing about working there is she still mingles with St. Louis society, so she can investigate her husband's death on the sly. Although the police have ruled out foul play, Kiki doesn't believe it. She finds out about her husband's former girlfriend who still carried a torch for George even after he married Kiki. When the ex-girlfriend is murdered shortly after a confrontation with Kiki, naturally Kiki is the prime suspect.

Was George's death natural after all? If not, who killed George and why? Did the not-so-ex ex-girlfriend have anything to do with his death? Who killed her and tried to frame Kiki? Kiki's determined to get to the bottom of this mystery and to clear her name. Luckily, Kiki has loyal friends to help her in her sleuthing. And she has one hunky cop on her side.

The first book in the Kiki Lowenstein Scrap-N-Craft mysteries, PAPER, SCISSORS, DEATH, is an engaging cozy filled with scrapbooking tips. Readers will cheer seeing Kiki rebuild her life—and grow a backbone—after her husband's death and her financial problems. Ms. Slan's debut mystery has a bit of a cliffhanger at the end, sure to keep readers coming back for the next book. Pick this one up if you love scrapbooking or cozies.

SUMMARY

Every scrapbook tells a story. Memories of friends, family . . .and murder?

Mousy housewife Kiki Lowenstein has two great loves: scrapbooking and her young daughter, Anya. But her happy family album is ruined when her husband, George, is found naked and dead in a hotel room. As Kiki tracks down George's murderer, she discovers his sordid secret life.

Cruel taunts by George's former flame compel Kiki to spout an unwise threat. When the woman is murdered, Kiki's scissor-sharp words make her the prime suspect. She could be creating scrapbook keepsakes for the rest of her life-behind bars. Supported by her loyal friends, along with a little help (and a lot of stomach flutters) from the dashing Detective Detweiler, can Kiki cut the true killer out of the picture and design a new life for herself and Anya?
