Iason Olympus is the mysterious island of Aelynn's only Sky
Rider where he has the power to reach into people's minds.
He also has visions that show him of a woman who sings to
him and perhaps is his amacara, which is his mate, and the
one who may have the sacred Chalice of Plenty that was
stolen from the island two years ago. Since the chalice was
taken, the former fruitful island is deteriorating. Ian was
the one responsible for protecting the chalice and has
failed. He will go to the Outside World, to Paris, France,
and find the chalice and the woman who has it in her
possession. He may also come upon, Murdock, who is also from
Aelynn but has gone to the Outside World. He is also
searching for the chalice, but wants to keep it for his own
gain.
France is on the brink of revolution and the widow Chantal
Deveau and her father, try the best they can under the
circumstances. Alain Orateur is a great orator while Chantal
has great musical skills and writes music for the
Revolution. Her friend Pauline and her children have been
arrested for hiding her brother, Pierre, who is a defrocked
priest. The only way to possibly get them out of prison is
to bribe the guards. She has one precious item that may save
them which is a strange looking bell embedded with
gemstones. She quickly gives this bell to one of her
servants to deliver one of the guards at the prison as
payment in releasing her dear friends. As soon as the bell
is out of her hands, a strange looking man, dressed as a
monk, comes to her asking for the same bell.
Ian quickly seduces Chantal and knows she is his amacara. As
soon as he is able to get the chalice back, he will take
Chantal to Aelynn, and begin to bring the island back to
life, which means producing their own offspring. But Chantal
is stubborn and needs to help her friends escape the terror
in France. Plus, her father who is former resident of Aelynn
refuses to force Chantal or help Ian to take her away. Ian
must try and appeal to Chantal to be with him and leave her
home forever. As Ian, Chantal, Alain, Pauline and her family
travel to freedom, Murdock is on their heels, out to possess
that chalice that Chantal now holds. She has the power to
hide the chalice from Murdock and uses her voice to aid
their escape.
MYSTIC RIDE is the second book in Patricia Rice's Mystic
Isle Series. Adventure, magic and seduction are heavy within
these pages and only a master storyteller like Patricia Rice
can write such an incredible story. I especially like
Chantal who is no innocent and weak heroine. She is very
worldly and cares for those around her, even sacrificing
herself for the well bring of others. She also has a lovely
magical voice that becomes just as important as Ian's
powers. Chantal may act annoyed and on edge with Ian, but
when these two are intimate and allow love into their hearts
for each other, their relationship soars.
There are a wonderful cast of characters, even including
Murdock who is not a typical villain as we are first led to
believe. Patricia Rice has written a mystical and magical
tale during a time when death and blood run through the
streets. She catches the atmosphere of this setting
perfectly and with a bit of magic to help Ian and Chantal,
MYSTIC RIDE shines in so many ways from the intimacies Ian
and Chantal share to those they help. A lovely book that
should be on everyone's reading list.
Ian Olympus, skilled
fighter and visionary, has left the isle of Aelynn for the
Outside
World to retrieve a sacred chalice. He finds it in the hands
of Chantal
Deveau, who plans to buy her family out of prison.
But her
outrage at his demand that she hand it over is nothing
compared to her
powerful, sensual response to his presence—and the startling
conviction
that their lives are irrevocably entwined. And Ian will soon
have to
choose between duty and desire.
