Don't let the title of this book make you think that this is a heady-philosophical read. It's not. It's the perfect summer beach read when you want to escape into another world with filled with colorful characters. LULU MEETS GOD AND DOUBTS HIM is the debut novel by Danielle Ganek and is set in the quirky New York City art scene.

If you can imagine the sort of egos that roll around any art scene, then you can image the way the Mia McMurray, the main character and narrator of this novel, feels working as a receptionist at a NYC art gallery. The novel really starts to happen when Mia finds herself at the center of a terrible accident in which Jeffrey Finelli, an undiscovered brilliant painter, gets run-over by an a taxi. As it is in real life, the death of an artist launches high bidding wars and ownership fights. Everything about the battle for power, fame, and recognition happens in this book. But, there is also another story being woven into this book, the story of Mia recognizing her own artistic talents and expressions.

Now, if you happen to be an insider on the art world, this book might not be for you. This novel is truly a book about the trials of doubt, faith, and persistence.

Newbie author, Danielle Ganek, is a woman not to doubt. Her own life story reads like a jet-set adventure. She's lived in Brazil and Switzerland before she finally settled with her family in America. After graduating from college, she moved to New York. She lived with two aspiring actresses in a fifth floor walk-up in Chelsea. She worked day jobs at places like Woman's Day magazine until she ended up at the Galeries Lafayette as a Creative Director. Meanwhile, she took all the writing classes she could at places like Columbia University, Writers Boot Camp, and the Writer's Studio. After Galeries Lafayette closed down and she had her first child, she took these events as a sign to focus exclusively on writing. Nothing beats a self-determined woman filled with passion! In 2005 she started LULU set in her old neighborhood of Chelsea. This is one woman to you're not going to doubt! Now, the big question is: What can we expect from her next?

SUMMARY

As The Devil Wears Prada demystified the world of high fashion, this funny and insightful debut novel dishes the crazy and captivating Manhattan art scene. When painter Jeffrey Finelli is run over by a cab, the art world clamors for the instantly in-demand work by the late "emerging artist"—especially an enormous painting called Lulu Meets God and Doubts Him.

Gallery receptionist and aspiring artist Mia McMurray finds herself at the center of the hype. She is an amused witness as a Birkin-toting collector, a well-muscled Irish artist, a real estate baron, and Lulu herself, the artist's niece and muse, battle over the brand-new masterpiece. In the midst of the madness, Mia finds her own creative expression and artistic identity, not to mention love.
