Dr. Bill Brockton is a forensic anthropologist and in charge
of a place called the Body Farm where he and his small staff
lay out and bury corpses to recreate death scenes and
hopefully solve some murders. The Body Farm is actually the
Anthropology Research Facility at the University of
Tennessee and Bill has staged hundreds of deaths for his
graduate students to study and has even helped solve some
murder cases in the past.
Bill and his graduate assistant, Miranda are about to
re-create a gruesome killing of a cross-dressing victim for
medical examiner Dr Jessamine Carter. Bill would really like
to get to know Jess outside of work. Jess is not sure if
Bill is ready for the dating world since he has just gotten
over the death of his wife of thirty years. But Jess is
willing to take things slowly with Bill. Bill is ecstatic
and hopes things will work out the way he has been imagining.
But Bill and Jess's romance is not easy. Bill is being sued
by a student because of a disagreement about evolution and
religion. And even though Jess doesn't mind dating Bill, she
finds that she is not ready to have a relationship because
of her issues with her ex-husband. And then the unimaginable
happens and Jess is brutally murdered and found strung up
against a tree on the Body Farm. Bill finds her body and
realizes he is being framed for her murder. Now Bill has to
figure out who is out to get him and why.
FLESH AND BONE is a taunt murder mystery where everyone
could be a suspect. Poor Bill is an amazing character who is
intelligent, kind and loyal. He is one man any woman would
love to have as a friend, co-worker or lover. When he is
framed over the murder of the one woman he has come to
respect and love after his wife's death, it is heart
breaking. His life is truly changed forever. But Bill
doesn't give up. He will fight and find the answers he needs
and why he suddenly has an enemy so set against ruining his
life.
Fans of police procedurals or forensic thrillers will really
enjoy this latest by Jefferson Bass. Each chapter brings new
evidence against Bill and closer to a confrontation with the
person responsible for the murder of Jess. You won't know
till the very end who is guilty and if Bill will go to jail
or make it out alive to continue his work on the Body Farm.
I recommend FLESH AND BONE as a thrilling mystery that will
not disappoint.
