Josie Drummond is a struggling psychic investigator who is invited to Castle Waite to prove the presence of the ghost. Amelia Thornton has hired her to prove the castle is haunted so she can draw the tourists in. She is in dire need of the money to maintain the castle.
During her stay, Josie has seen no signs of the ghost. There have been some periodic problems with her equipment but nothing indicates that the castle is haunted. Until, her last day there when the ninth Earl of Waite appears and proposes an exchange.
If Josie will return to the past with him and prevent his mother from being swindled by a fake psychic, he will do everything he can to provide the proof Josie needs that ghosts exist.
Josie knows that time travel isn't possible so she goes along with the idea. After all, she has nothing to lose.
Only when they take a carriage ride away from the present and return to the past, Josie finds her world is turned upside down. Ths small amount of training she received isn't enough to prevent her from causing trouble. The ghost runs into difficulty when it turns out that he can't be in the same room as his phyical being.
The time is running short and Josie is having trouble proving that the medium is fake. At the last minute, not only will Josie be able to prevent the swindling psychic from stealing the heritage of the Earls, she will find a treasure which will entirely change the course of the family.
As the ghost is pulling her toward her own time, the Earl will present her with a dilemma which could change the course of many lives.
I really loved this story. Ms. Brown has done a fabulous job of making time travel seem possible without boring the reader with scientific detail. The characters were interesting. The story has a light heartedness to it that kept this reader engrossed.
