Single mother Jane Hartley is devastated when she sees her
sixteen-year-old daughter Kelly riding a motorcycle without
a helmet, accompanied by a young man Jane has never met. As
a small child, Kelly survived cancer and the devastating
treatments required to save her life. How can Kelly take
such risks with the second chance at life she's been given?
Who is this mystery man and how does Kelly know him?
The next morning, Jane discovers her daughter is missing,
having left only a message saying she'll call later that
day. When that call comes, Jane knows something has gone
horribly wrong. The call is abruptly terminated and no
further contact is achieved, so Jane reports her daughter
missing. Police think Kelly may be merely another teenage
runaway. But they do give Jane the number of a former FBI
agent, Randall Shane, who may be able to help.
Things get murky really fast. Is Kelly a runaway with her
new friend Sean? Or has something terrible happened to
Kelly—and maybe Sean too? The police aren't any help and
Sean's father is acting very strange. Jane must rely on
Randall Shane's wits to figure out what happened and to
recover her daughter alive. How do a billionaire, a missing
airplane, a Florida American Indian-owned casino and a
madman factor into this puzzling disappearance? Without
getting into spoiler territory, I can say that Shane's
skills will be stretched to their limits in this unusual case.
TRAPPED is a pulse-pounding nonstop thrill ride from start
to finish. Squeamish readers, be forewarned that there is a
significant amount of on-screen violence throughout,
especially during the latter third of the book. I found the
use of present tense a little disconcerting at first but
finally adapted to the style by the finale. Multiple POVs
are used, giving readers tantalizing peeks at the thoughts
and actions of everyone involved. Thriller fans will want to
snap up this latest offering from Mr. Jordan.
"Mom, I need your help. Please call--" That's it. The
call cuts off in midsentence. No static. Nothing. Just an
overwhelming silence.
Long Island single mom Jane
Hartley is frantic when her sixteen-year-old daughter,
Kelly, a survivor of childhood leukemia, disappears from her
bedroom one night. To Jane's frustration, the police believe
that Kelly ran off willingly with her boyfriend, Seth.
Unaware that her daughter even had a boyfriend, Jane soon
discovers that Seth is no boy. He is an adult -- a man who,
after meeting Kelly on MySpace.com, took the teenager on one
thrill-seeking ride after another. From motorcycles to
skydiving, Jane's little girl has been hiding some dangerous
secrets.
Like mother, like daughter.
Adamant
that Kelly is not a runaway but, rather, is being held
against her will, Jane hires ex-FBI agent Randall Shane to
follow the trail of her missing child. But every step brings
them closer to a cold-blooded predator lurking in the
shadows . . . coiled around Jane's shameful secret . . .
waiting to strike.
A thrilling suspense novel,
Trapped is every mother's nightmare and one monster's
dream come true.
