They have come together to save the world from evil. Known
as the Menagerie, they are seven very different beings who
have decided to work for the good of mankind. Headed by
Conan Doyle, a sorcerer who has been alive for centuries, he
watches as the demons from Hell try to take over the world.
But this time they are on a mission to build an army in the
one place no one would have expected. That place is the
Garden of Eden.
Eve, the first woman made from God's flesh and the mother of
all vampires knows how important that place is. Her old
nemesis, the demon Abaddon who changed her into what she is
ever since she fell from God's grace, along with the exiled
archangel Jophiel, plan to take over Eden and corrupt the
land so evil will reign supreme. Eve has waited far to long
to finally destroy Abaddon and put herself in God's graces
again. But as Eve is ready to battle these two evil leaders
and her vampire children, she is taken by them since they
believe she maybe the key to open the garden doors.
Along with Clay, Eve's close friend and another of God's
special creatures and that of Ceridwen, the Princess of the
Fey and lover of Doyle, they are on a race to save Eve and
to protect Eden before it is too late. Also their fellow
Menagerie friends, Squire a hobgoblin, Danny Ferrick a
teenage demon and Dr. Leonard Graves a ghost, come along to
help, but time is of the essence. But Abaddon, Jophiel and
their minions find a way into Eden before the Menagerie can
stop them. The only solution is now war between good and
evil and the outcome is still unknown.
CRASHING PARADISE is a true good versus evil adventure tale.
There is a whole lot of gore and fighting but I found myself
on the edge of my seat waiting to see if good would triumph
over evil like it usually does. Both Golden and Sniegoski
take the topic of religion and biblical characters and give
them their own voice. And the Menagerie is a very colorful
group of people. They are loud, like to fight and some have
mouths that most truck drivers would sympathize with.
Because each of these characters are very unique, the one
who shines here is Eve. I found myself suffering along with
Eve as she goes thought painful memories of a happier time
in Eden and after her fall when she felt her soul became
tainted. She wants forgiveness from the one who has forsaken
her, or so she thinks. She was definitely a refreshing voice
and could fight with the best of them.
Since this is part of a series, I found myself wanting to go
back and read the past three books about the Menagerie and
their future together which is left open ended. Any fan of
dark fantasy should definitely pick up CRASHING PARADISE and
enjoy the exploits and courage of the Menagerie.
The Legion of Doom is hell-bent on breaking into Eden, and
they've got the perfect captive to help them: Eve, mother of
all humanity-and all vampires. Only Doyle and the Menagerie
can stop them from turning a blessed garden into a paradise
lost.
