Liam Raven is still dealing with the fallout from his father's murder and the fact that his father had two families. He was not shocked by his father's bigamist ways as he had discovered the truth years ago. Liam is a lawyer who stopped practicing criminal law after a particularly nasty case, and turned his specialty to high profile divorce cases. He tries not to see the resemblance of his life to his father's life, so in this way, he is trying to distance himself from his father's legacy. Will he ever be free from his father's shadow?
Chloe Hamilton is a multiple Olympic medal winner who happened to marry the man who would become the best mayor the city of Denver has seen in quite a while. They seemed to be the perfect couple, but every relationship has its secrets. Chloe discussed the possibility of divorce with Liam several months ago, but eventually changed her mind. Now that her husband has been murdered, she is asking for his help in a criminal case. She is the prime SUSPECT in her husband's murder. Did she kill her husband?
Liam is extremely tempted to serve as Chloe's lawyer. She even tells him a secret that has him questioning everything. It soon becomes apparent that he is much too attracted to her to be much use as her lawyer, but he will still help with her case. As Liam delves into the murder, he uncovers secrets that link back to his father or rather his father's second family. Is this connection important? What was really going on in the mayor's house? What is going on between him and Chloe?
Jasmine Cresswell has written an exciting murder mystery. She has created an outstanding cast of characters. Her descriptions of their struggles will allow you to identify with them and to fall in love with them. The plot may seem like a simple murder mystery, but there are many curves thrown in when you least expect them. This is the second book in the Raven family trilogy, but it can be read as a stand-alone novel. Ms. Cresswell has woven together a fabulous story, and I am sure that SUSPECT will keep you on the edge of your seat.
